Three-year jail to four MCD officials in graft case

A court here awarded three-year jail term to four officials of the undivided Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for accepting a bribe of Rs.4,000 for not filing adverse report in a suit.

Special Judge Narottam Kaushal Wednesday sent Suresh Kumar, Dilbagh Singh, Hemant Kumar and Umed Singh Kanoongo of Slum and Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) department for demanding a bribe of Rs.10,000 to Rs.20,000 for not filing adverse report on unauthorised construction.

The order was released Thursday.

They were convicted of criminal conspiracy and under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to anti-corruption branch, complainant Devender Singh Oct 8, 2008, had filed a graft case against the four.

Devender Singh had alleged that the four came to his house and threatened to file a adverse report on a suit against his father regarding unauthorised construction.

The four were arrested red-handed while accepting Rs.4,000 as bribe Nov 6, 2008.

The court has slapped a fine of Rs.15,000 on each convict.
