London-based Times Higher Education that brings out the World University rankings will publish a separate rankings for universities of BRICS nations and other emerging countries in December.

The rankings will be published during the first Times Higher Education and BRICS and Emerging Economies Universities Summit to be held at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana, from December 2-4, Phil Baty, editor at large Times Higher Education Magazine, announced at a press conference here.

As compared to the World ranking, the BRICS and Emerging Economics Rankings, which will include universities from 48 countries, will put less emphasis on research citations and more on "international outlook" of the universities, Baty said.

"International outlook, in our definition, consists of three parametres - presnece of international faculty, international students and quality of international collaborative research," Baty said.

The new rankings are in recognition of the different contexts in which these univeristies function as compared to those in the developed coutries, Baty said.

"It is like comparing apples with apples, not apples with oranges," he explained.

The ranking will offer the students of these countries to make more informed decisions about their career, said C. Raj Kumar, founding vice chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University.
