Today's songs don't have the same charm: Asha Parekh

Asha Parekh, who dominated the film industry in the 1960s and 1970s, rues the lack of good lyrics in songs and modern dance forms.

"Films have changed and nowadays it is looking more superior on screen. Artists are working hard to prove themselves," Asha told reporters at the unveiling of her hand impression tile here Friday.

Known for her dance numbers like "Parde mein rehne do", "Khat likh de saawariya ke naam babu" and "Aaja aaja main hoon pyar tera", the 71-year-old said: "What saddens me is that today's songs and the lyrics don't have the same charm as earlier."

"The songs are very weird (ajeeb hain). The dances are modernised but the old dances were different. I hope folk dances comes back in the industry. I hope we don't forget the Indian culture," she added.
