Tokyo shares opened the trading on Thursday higher as the sentiment here was boosted by overnight gains in overseas markets.
At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 80.76 points, or 0.46 percent, from Wednesday to 17,468.91, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.70 points, or 0.62 percent, to 1,419.86.
