Tokyo stocks dropped on Wednesday morning as geopolitical tensions following Turkey's downing of a Russian fighter jet a day earlier sent investors into a risk off mood and seeking out safe havens.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 102.74 points (0.52 percent) from Tuesday to end the morning at 19,822.15, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 11.63 points (0.72 percent) at 1,594.31.
At the break, notable decliners comprised securities, banking and financing business-related issues.
