Tokyo shares ended the morning session lower on Friday with export-oriented issues hit by yen's strength against the US dollar overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 103.83 points (0.52 percent) from Thursday to end the morning at 19,755.98, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 7.20 points (0.45 percent) to 1,593.18.
Decliners were led by insurance, rubber products and transport equipment.
