Former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar on Wednesday moved a sessions court here, challenging his arrest in an alleged fake degree case.

The application was mentioned before Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Jain, who refused an early hearing to Tomar's plea and posted the matter for Thursday.

In his application, Tomar called his arrest illegal, saying police did not follow proper procedure while apprehending him.

Tomar, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, has also sought bail in the case.

A magistrate court on Tuesday sent Tomar to four-day police custody following his arrest in the alleged fake law degree case. The court also rejected his bail application.

Tomar was arrested here on Tuesday morning by Delhi Police who registered a case of cheating, forgery and conspiracy against him.

Police also told the court that the investigation in the case was at an initial stage and the documents pertaining to the law degree obtained by Tomar were "fake".

Appearing for Tomar, senior advocate and AAP member H.S. Phoolka opposed the plea of police, saying Tomar's documents were not fake and he was arrested on false information.

Phoolka also requested the court to grant bail to his client, saying that he would fully cooperate in the investigation and would not try to tamper with the evidence in the case.
