Visiting US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns has met Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi and military chief General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to discuss the recent developments in the country, state news agency MENA reported.

During the meeting held Sunday, Beblawi stressed that the government was going to implement the roadmap set by the people's power. He told the US official that peaceful political work was open to all powers and no one will be excluded.

Burns stressed that the US welcomes the resumption of negotiation with the International Monetary Fund about an expected loan to Egypt as soon as possible, Xinhua said.

Burns also reiterated that only Egyptians can decide their future and that the US was only trying to bring closer the views of different parties.

Burns also met military chief General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and discussed the recent developments.

The meeting touched on the current political crisis in Egypt and the democratic transition process.
