Harry Kane's goal early in the second half was all Tottenham Hotspur needed to defeat Newcastle United 1-0 and assure themselves of playing Champions League football in the 2018-2019 season.
Wednesday night's win boosts Spurs to third place with 74 points, two ahead of Liverpool and five better than Chelsea, who settled for a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge in one of Wednesday's other English Premier League (EPL) matches, reports EFE news agency.
Tottenham were not at their best for most of the contest at London's Wembley Stadium, but super-striker Kane delivered again and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was stalwart at the back to take all three points.
To finish in the top four, Chelsea needs to beat Newcastle away in their final match and hope for Liverpool to lose at Anfield to Brighton & Hove Albion.
