Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday said transparency was an integrated component of good governance, be it in politics or cyber space.
"Whether in politics or cyber space, we find transparency is an integrated component of good governance. Like in Sri Lanka we formed the government based on the idea of good governance in January 2015 and ensuring transparency was a top priority on our reformed agenda," he told the inaugural session of the fifth Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS).
He said that at present cyber cell had become a repository of information and knowledge.
"We are all aware that exponential growth of the Internet, digitization and information and communications technology have forced additional challenges to human society at large... We need to strike a balance between individual freedom and free flow of information and data.
"The way I see it, good governance in cyber space will play a pivotal role in striking this balance," the Sri Lankan leader said.
He said there was a need for ensuring net neutrality. "Net neutrality is the basic principle that prohibits Internet service providers from speeding up, slowing down or blocking any content online."
