Tributes poured in from various distinguished personalities of society for the Indian hockey team after it ended a 16-year drought to win an Asian games gold medal at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium here Thursday, thus booking a berth for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The two-time champions beat holders Pakistan 4-2 via penalties in the final after the match ended 1-1 after regulation time.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was among the first to congratulate. "Congrats to Hockey India on a great gold! Awesome keeping Sreejesh," he tweeted.
Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his twitter handle "T 1632 -INDIA WIN GOLD !!! IN HOCKEY ... YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!"
"Congratulations to Indian Hockey team for winning Gold medal at Asian Games. Chaa gaye veero! Chak ditta. #LivePunjabiPlayPunjabi," Indian premier league (IPL) side Kings XI Punjab said on the social networking site.

Bishan Singh Bedi was also efusive of his praise for the victorious hockey team. "Well done India!Asian Hockey Gold is what the doc ordered!And now on to Rio w/gr8r intensity..Sardar & Co Hearty Congrats!Thx fr super show!," the former India cricket captain tweeted.
