Triple murders in two families rock Mumbai, Thane

Two cases of triple murder rocked Mumbai and its neighbouring Thane on Thursday.

In the first instance in Malwani suburban area of north-west Mumbai, a 47-year old woman and her two grandchildren were found killed in their home in No. 6 New Collector Colony, said Mumbai Police's official spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe.

While the woman, identified as Babli Shaw, was stabbed several times, the unknown assailants slit the throats of her grandson Aryan Shaikh, 13 and eight-year-old granddaughter Sania Shaikh.

The children were living with their maternal grandmother after their mother died a few years ago and their father remarried and lives nearby.

Police are questioning the children's father and exploring a possible motive of property angle behind the triple murder.

The incident came to light today when the house door did not open till 10 a.m. The Mumbai Crime Branch and local police are investigating the killings.

In Ulhasnagar town of Thane district, a three-member family comprising a couple and their young son was found axed to death in Karavali village on the outskirts of the town, DCP Sunil Bharadwaj told media persons.

The victims have been identified as dairy farmer Shankar Bhandari, 62, his wife Fassubai, 50 and their 22-year old son, Sunny, while another son and his wife escaped death as they had gone out last night, he said.

The incident came to light this morning when none of the family members were seen by the people in the neighbourhood and the locals informed police.

Some household articles and foodgrains are reported missing from their home and police suspect it could a robbery bid gone awry.
