A man in Tripura sent a human thumb streaked with blood and vermilion to his wife after a spat over her seeking to stay longer at her parents' house, police said Friday.
"Ajoy Malakar, 33, sent a gift packet to his wife Anjali. She opened it to find a thumb with a mix of blood and vermilion on it," a police officer told reporters here.
Malakar had called his wife, who had gone to her father's house Monday, asking her to return by Thursday. But Anjali refused and said she would be delayed by a couple of days. This led to a verbal spat. She received the packet, delivered by hand, the next day.
Malakar is absconding, police said, adding the thumb has been sent for forensic tests.
