Tropical storm Henri could reach Britain next week, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, forecasters have warned.

Forecasters said that winds could reach up to 70mph in some areas while parts of the country will receive two weeks worth of rain in just one day, The Telegraph reported.

"It does look quite wet, it's looking like a wet autumn," the Met Office said.

"There could be some quite windy conditions with significant gusts around the coast."

Tropical storm Henri has already battered the Caribbean although it would be downgraded to an ex-tropical storm or an intense depression once it begins to head east across the Atlantic.

The forecast of stormy conditions comes just days after the Met Office invited the public to choose autumn storm names. It raises the possibility that Henri could be the first storm that Britons will have a say in renaming.
