With the formation of Telangana almost becoming a reality, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao Monday called on President Pranab Mukherjee.
After the meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the TRS president told reporters that he thanked the president on behalf of the people of Telangana.
Parliament last week passed a bill for creating Telangana as country's 29th state.
The bill is likely to get the president's assent in a couple of days. This will be followed by a publication of gazette notification after which the two states will formally come into being.
Chandrasekhara Rao also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi Sunday in the national capital to thank her for the passage of the bill.
He is likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before returning to Hyderabad on Feb 26.
