Regional air carrier Trujet on Wednesday said it has received clearance from the civil aviation regulator to operate on the Nanded-Mumbai route under the government's regional connectivity scheme Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN).

According to the airline, the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) it has received from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will enable it to expand flight services to all metros in the country.

Turbo Megha Airways, which is the holding company of the regional carrier, has been granted the AOC under the Scheduled Commuter Operator (SCO) category, a senior official from the DGCA said.

The airline is the first in the country to be awarded the SCO permit -- the category under which air operators are allowed to operate with aircraft having a maximum all up weight (AUW) not exceeding 40 tonnes.

Turbo Megha is one of the five air operators which won bids to operate on 128 routes connecting 70 airports, of which 31 are unserved, under the UDAN scheme where fares are capped at Rs 2,500 for one hour flights.

The airline currently operates a set of ATR-72 aircraft and has acquired the forth aircraft of the same type. The latest aircraft will operate the new RCS sectors of Hyderabad-Nanded and Hyderabad-Cuddapah under the UDAN project.
