Turkey proposes expansion of air services accord: Turkish envoy

Turkey has proposed starting of negotiations for expanding the bilateral air services agreement with India, top Turkish official said on Thursday.

According to the Turkish envoy to India Burak Akcapar: "We have proposed for opening of negotiations. We are waiting for the positive decision of the Indian government in this regard."

"We are looking to at least doubling the current daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai (to Instabul) and in turn we'll be able to offer connections to six additional cities around India, including Ahmedabad and Kolkata," the envoy told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event here.

The envoy elaborated that Turkish companies are examining possibility to increase investments into India.

"We are looking very closely at further investments and business opportunities. We have some flagship companies and investments in the country, they are looking for further opportunities. This includes the civil aviation sector," the envoy said on the sidelines of PHD Aviation Summit.

"Smart cities is another significant area where our corporation can yield significant results. Turkey comes next only to China in terms of construction sector, we have very advanced capabilities in building infrastructure."
