Turkish security forces on Monday thwarted a bomb attack planned by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, according to an official statement.
The gendarmerie forces carried out an operation after receiving intelligence that the militants were planning a bomb attack in the eastern province of Van, Xinhua news agency cited the statement as saying.
The forces have destroyed a vehicle with explosion devices and killed the two PKK militants onboard in the Gurpinar district of Van province.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the US and the European Union, resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government in July 2015.
Since then, some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians have been killed in PKK attacks, while more than 7,000 PKK members were killed during government operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
