Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Saturday assured Afghanistan of his country's long term support as he undertook a day-long visit to the war-hit South Asian country.

The assurance was given as President Erdogan met his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Xinhua reported.

"Turkey would continue to support Afghanistan in all fields including investment in infrastructure, mines extraction, food and agriculture and the friendly relations between the two countries would further get closer in the years ahead," President Erdogan said at a joint press conference with his Afghan counterpart at the Presidential Palace here.

"Turkey attaches great importance to its relations with Afghanistan and would continue to remain alongside Afghans," he added.

Afghan President Ahmadzai said both the presidents in their meeting reached agreement that Afghanistan and Turkey would enhance cooperation at all levels, saying cabinet with cabinet and administration with administration would have joint cooperation and learn from each other's experiences.
