Twitterati remember Garcia Marquez's literary genius

The author of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' breathed his last at his home in Mexico City Thursday

Fans of Colombian Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez took to Twitter Friday to pay tribute to the author by remembering his most celebrated pearls of wisdom reflecting his broader understanding of life.

The author of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' breathed his last at his home in Mexico City Thursday, a little more than a week after leaving hospital. He was 87.

"It's enough for me to be sure that you and I exist at this moment," Sapna Moti Bhavnani wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Journalist Soutik Biswas wrote one of his most popular quotes: "'The only regret I will have in dying is if it is not for love'. Goodbye Gabo."

"Always tell what you feel. Do what you think," tweeted Anush Ghavalyan.

There were many who celebrated the literary genius.

"Love in times of cholera put to rest in peace in times of terrorism," wrote Jenny Srinivasan.

Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar wrote: "Your work is so splendid, Garcia, you will be remembered for as long as there are words. The writer I love/loved the most."

Daniyal Butt tweeted: "GabrielMarquezGarcia an amazing and wonderful author. I only read his 100 years of solitude and now it instigated me to read more."

"Hearing of death of Gabriel Marquez Garcia is like the feeling of departure you get at the end of a book as you leave the characters behind," wrote Dinesh Balliah.

Richa Chadha wrote: "Though you seem to be gone, your stories play themselves out in the universe. Thank you for them."
