Two B. Tech degree holders were duped of around Rs.15 lakh by a man who promised to get them jobs in a steel firm in Andhra Pradesh, said a Delhi Police official Saturday. The accused was arrested from a city hotel.
P. Bangaru Raju, 47, resident of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, was arrested from a Delhi hotel Friday on the basis of information provided by police in Visakhapatnam.
Gondsei Sri Nagar Reddy and his brother G. Srikanth Reddy, both B. Tech degree holders, were in search of a job when they came in contact with Raju in December 2010.
Raju promised to get both of them appointed as store men in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and demanded Rs.15 lakh from them.
"On the assurances given by the accused, the victims' father paid him Rs.14.70 lakh in four instalments. The accused vanished after getting the money," said Deputy Commissioner of Police S.B.S Tyagi.
Raju had also shown them an appointment letter purportedly issued by joint secretary, union ministry of steel.
"The two complainants had reported the matter to Visakhapatnam police informing them that the money was arranged by their father by selling land and mortgaging gold ornaments of the family," said Tyagi.
