The bullet-riddled bodies of two men were Tuesday found in a village in Assam's Baksa district, causing speculation that they were killed by Bodo militants.
The deceased were identified as Jamal Khandeker and Yusuf Ali, police said.
Police said the two men Monday left their house in Salbari for Labdangguri in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) for some work. But when they did not return home, their family members filed a missing persons complaint.
Their bodies were found from near Labdangguri Tuesday morning. Police said investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind their killing.
Police did not rule out the involvement of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
The NDFB killed over 40 people in the district in a series of attacks in May.
The BTAD region has been witnessing clashes between Bodos and Bengali-speaking Muslim settlers since 2012. Over 150 people have been killed and lakhs of people displaced from both the communities.
