Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were killed Thursday in a guerrilla attack in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
A senior police officer told IANS that two CRPF troopers were killed when militants fired at them from close range in Jawbrara (Awantipora) on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, 27 km from the summer capital Srinagar.
"Militants fired at a road opening party (ROP) of the 130 battalion of the CRPF.
"Two CRPF jawans, critically injured in the firing by militants, later succumbed to injuries," the officer said.
Senior police and CRPF officials have rushed to the spot.
ROPs of army, paramilitary forces and the local police are deployed on roads and highways in Jammu and Kashmir to secure the passage of army/paramilitary convoys and movement of VVIPs.
