Two people were killed and three others injured when an old residential building collapsed in Shanghai Sunday, authorities said.
The three-storey brick-and-wood structure crumbled at 4.49 a.m. when nine people were in the building in Hongkou District, Xinhua reported citing local government.
Four people managed to escape while the rest were pulled out by rescuers, the statement said.
Three injured survivors were being treated in a hospital.
An initial investigation showed the accident was caused by a gas explosion.
