Two policemen from the Gujarat bomb disposal squad going to Patna for Chief Minister Narendra Modi's trip were killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh Friday, police said.
The team, travelling in a Gujarat police vehicle, was part of a bomb disposal squad from Modi's home state.
Firozabad Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh told IANS that the vehicle carrying the policemen was hit by a speeding truck from the rear at Sirsaganj in Firozabad district.
Two policemen died instantly while six others were injured. The dead have been identified as Gairaj Singh and Atmaram.
The truck driver fled the crime scene, police said. The Gujarat government had sent seven bomb disposal squads to screen and sanitize the areas Modi is to visit Saturday.
Six people were killed in Patna Oct 27 when half a dozen bombs exploded in the city, mainly in and around the Gandhi Maidan where Modi later addressed a huge rally. A seventh person died later.
