A new wave of floods struck the Var department in southeast France and killed two women, according to media reports.

The first victim, a woman, died late Thursday after rising waters swept away her car in la Londe-les-Maures village, and a second woman, reported missing since Thursday, was found dead early Friday morning, Xinhua reported.

Heavy rainfall affecting the country's southeastern region also left two people missing, including a child.

Meteo, the France meteorological service forecast, says 13 departments in southern France have been put under orange alert on predicted rains and floods till Saturday morning.
