Security forces deployed in restive Manipur on Saturday killed two militants near the India-Myanmar border and arrested another near the state capital, officials said.
A joint team of Assam Rifles and the Indian Army's Dogra Regiment killed two cadres of the Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) in a remote place between B. Bongjang and T. Motjang villages near the international border in Moreh, an Assam Rifles spokesman said.
Another team of Manipur Police commandos and the 40 Assam Rifles unit arrested a militant of the Peoples' Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Arapati area in Imphal East district. He was handed over to police.
"Based on a tip that some PLA cadres were hiding in the area, the troops carried out an operation. The troops were first fired upon by the militants forcing them to retaliate. In the ensuing gun battle, two militants were killed, while several others managed to sneak over to the other side of the border," the spokesman said.
The spokesman said a few other militants were injured but were helped by the others in escaping.
An AK-47 rifle and two pistols were recovered from the slain militants.
