Worried over loan repayment, two more farmers have committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Sunday. This takes the total number of such deaths to 36 in the last 21 days.
The Congress, however, claimed that 55 farmers have committed suicide in the past 25 days.
Lakshman Singh, a famer in Narayanpur village in Mandsaur, consumed poison on Saturday. He died while he was being shifted to Udaipur in Rajasthan for treatment.
Police officer S.L. Borasi told IANS that Lakshman had left an eight-page suicide note.
Another farmer in Tikamgarh district, Dharam Singh Thakur, committed suicide by hanging from a tree on Saturday.
His brother Lakhan said Dharam availed a loan for his daughter's marriage and planned to repay it by selling his farm produce but it was destroyed.
