Two persons hailing from Andhra Pradesh have been arrested on the charge of stealing cash and valuables from Delhi houses while posing as hearing and speech impaired persons, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
Accused V. Babu and his accomplice Yarampally Laksmarayya, in the 20-25 age group, were arrested on Tuesday night from their rented accommodation in Neb Sarai area in south Delhi.
"A laptop and an iPhone have been seized from them. They were identified from closed-circuit television footage from the houses of those they tricked," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.
"They went from door to door and acted as if they had hearing and speech impairment. They sought donations and when unsuspecting persons went inside to get money to donate, they followed them into the houses and stole valuables like mobile phones, laptops, cash etc. and escaped," the officer said.
