At least four persons were injured on Tuesday when two opposing groups of the ruling Trinamool Congress clashed in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, police said.

The clash took place in Phul Malancha village in Basanti town over area domination during which sharp weapons were used and crude bombs were hurled.

"There was a fight between two groups of Trinamool Congress over area domination in Phul Malancha village. Four people were injured during the bombings," Arijit Sinha, Superintendent of police of Baruipur told IANS.

The locals alleged that at least two persons received bullet injuries during the clash but police said they have not received any such reports.

"We haven't received any reports of firing. All four persons have been admitted to the Canning sub-divisional hospital. According to medical reports their injuries were caused by bomb splinters," Sinha said.

"We have already arrested four people including the panchayat pradhan of the village Aftab Mollah. We are in the process of detaining more people," the officer said.
