Berbera (Somalia), May 27 (IANS/WAM) A UAE ship carrying 1,700 tonnes of food supplies for those affected by drought arrived in the Berbera Port in Somalia on Saturday.
The aid, on the directive of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was in line with the "For You Somalia" campaign under the UAE's "Year of Giving Initiative 2017", launched to provide help to the Somalis.
The campaign aims to enhance the role played by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and to spread its humanitarian and cultural message to address the crisis of famine in Somalia and the disasters in various countries across the world.
The ship sailed from Hamriyah Port in Dubai and arrived at the Berbera Port in the northwest of Somalia.
An official said that a delegation from the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation will oversee the distribution of food supplies to those affected by the drought.
Somali officials, appreciating the aid, hailed the relations between the two countries.
