The Congress, which has been asked by the Election Commission to complete its organisational polls by the end of this year, on Tuesday said it has received requests from units in poll-bound states to postpone them in these states.

The requests have been received from Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Mizoram, said a party source.

"The states which are going for elections have made requests to postpone the internal organisational elections in those sattes. But, nothing has been decided on this as yet," said the source.

"We did not take a final decision on this," the source added.

According to the source, a decision on this matter will be taken by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at a meeting with General Secretaries of the poll-bound states.

Members of party's Central Election Authority will also be present in the meeting.

According to the schedule, election to the post of Congress president will be held between September 16 and October 15.

The Congress has been seeking extension of time to hold organisational elections since present term of party chief Sonia Gandhi ended in 2015.
