The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Friday approved a Police Emergency Management System project for ensuring quick police response in emergency situations in both rural and urban areas of the state.

The cabinet approved the detailed project report as well as Rs.2,325.33-crore cost of the state-level project and authorised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to make desired amendments in it in future.

The 'Dial-100' project's centralised master coordination centre will be set up in Lucknow and two sub-centres in Agra and Varanasi.

Under the project, people contacting the centre in emergency situations through telephone, SMS or other telecommunication medium from anywhere in the state will immediately get police help.

All calls to the centre will be recorded and complaints disposed of only after the complainant was satisfied.

In 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, 3,200 four-wheelers and 1,600 two-wheelers equipped with modern gadgets will be pressed into service. Their positions will be mapped by the central hub through global positioning system.

A special analysis and research wing will be established at the central hub for collection and analysis of the received data. A dedicated data centre too will be set up, an official told IANS.
