The Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border has been sealed following violence in Nepal where mobs attacked policemen and 21 people were killed, officials said on Tuesday.
The Nepalese government has asked its security forces to seal the border following curfew in Tikapur. The Indian side has been informed of the closure of the border.
Officials said police and the Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) have also stepped up vigil on the Indian side, mainly in the border districts of Maharajganj, Pilibhit, Gonda, Siddharthanagar, Bahraich and Balrampur.
No one is being allowed to go to Nepal from Lakhimpur or the districts where transit points to the Himalayan nation were available, officials added.
