The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said it will recruit 35,000 police constables -- without any written test.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
It was also decided that the constables would be recruited on the basis of marks secured by applicants in Class X and XII.
This would be followed by a physical test but the written test has been done away with.
In the past, similar recruitment drives in the police department have accompanied charges of corruption.
The cabinet also decided to open 100 new schools in the state.
