People who drink beer on a regular basis in the US confess to being more outgoing, lovers of rock and roll, happy at work and food enthusiasts, according to a study released to coincide with National Beer Day on Tuesday.

The study by Letsgraba.beer and market research company Wakefield Research revealed that 53.8 percent of beer enthusiasts consider themselves outgoing, while only 42.7 percent of non-beer drinkers exhibit the same tendency, Efe news agency reported.

The alcoholic beverage particularly helps men to socialise, something 56.5 percent of them acknowledge, while most women claim that alcohol plays no part in their sociability.

When asked about the music they listen to, 72.6 percent of beer drinkers prefer rock, while 27.4 percent prefer hip hop.

However, rock and roll is the favoured musical genre among non-beer drinkers with 84.5 percent preferring it to hip hop.

In terms of job satisfaction, 79.7 percent of beer drinkers say they are happy with their jobs, while only 57.8 percent of non-beer drinkers made the same claim.

Letsgraba.beer and Wakefield Research interviewed 1,000 Americans over the age of 21 (US legal drinking age) for the study.

Interviews were conducted between March 5 and 19 in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and Denver.

The survey has a 3.1 percent margin of error.
