Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Wednesday the US has expressed concern over terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

Asked about the US reaction to India raising the issue of terrorism from Pakistan, the minister said: "The reaction was good and concerns were expressed."

The minister was talking to reporters after laying wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate on Vijay Diwas, which marks India's military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to creation of Bangladesh.

Parrikar visited US last week, and met US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter.

A joint statement issued last Friday after the talks did not mention Pakistan, but said the two sides discussed a "wide range of regional security issues", including the threat posed by Islamic State and entities such as Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, D Company (Dawood Ibrahim), the Haqqani Network, and other regional terror groups.

Carter, at a joint press conference with the Indian minister in Washington, acknowledged that "India has been attacked and is continuously threatened with attack from terrorists, even as we are, even as Pakistan and Afghanistan are".

"We have independent relationships with all three of those, and counter terrorism isn't the only thing we do with all three of those," he said. "But counter terrorism is an important thing that we do with all of them."

Parrikar was flanked by three service chiefs - Army Chief General Dalbir Singh, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, and Navy Chief Admiral R.K. Dhowan in paying respect to the martyrs on Vijay Diwas on Wednesday morning.
