A second US nurse diagnosed with Ebola while caring for a patient from Liberia is now free of the disease and will leave Emory University Hospital in Atlanta soon, hospital authorities said Tuesday.

"We are happy to report that Amber Vinson, who arrived at Emory University Hospital on Oct. 15th, will be discharged today and is free of Ebola virus," Xinhua quoted the hospital as saying in a statement.

Vinson,29, and her fellow nurse Nina Pham contracted the virus while treating patient Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian who died Oct 8, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

Pham, 26, was later transferred to a hospital at the US National Institutes of Health for treatment. She was released from the hospital Friday after being declared free of the virus.

Of the nine people who have been treated for Ebola in the US, seven recovered and only Duncan died of the virus.

A doctor, who recently returned to New York City after treating Ebola patients in West Africa and tested positive for the virus Thursday, is the only person in the country to remain in the hospital for treatment.
