US Secretary of State John Kerry has said his country is ready to offer help to any international investigation into the Malaysian plane crash in Ukraine that killed 298 people on board.
"We are horrified by the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. There are no words adequate to express our condolences to the families of the nearly 300 victims," Kerry said a statement Friday.
"We offer our sympathies and support to the governments of Malaysia and the Netherlands at this difficult time, as well as to all those whose citizens may have been on board."
Stating that it was still being reviewed whether any American citizen on board, he said that the US was ready to assist any credible international probe into the incident.
"The United States government remains prepared to assist with a credible, international investigation any way we can, and we will continue to be in touch with all relevant partners as we seek the facts of what happened today," Kerry said.
Flight MH17, a Boeing 777, crashed in the conflict-hit Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur Thursday afternoon, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board.
