A security summit will be held in the US capital Washington next month, which will discuss ways to deal with violent extremism across the globe, US Attorney General, Eric Holder said here Sunday.

The security summit will be held Feb 18, Holder said, according to a Xinhua report.

Holder participated in Sunday's march in Paris on behalf of US President Barack Obama to express solidarity with a grieving France, following terror attacks in the European country last week, in which 17 people were killed.

"We will bring together all of our allies to discuss ways in which we can counteract this violent extremism that exists around the world," Holder said.

The US attorney general attended a meeting organised by French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, during which 11 European interior ministers met to discuss measures to deepen cooperation in order to prevent future attacks.

"We all agreed to implement thorough checks on certain passengers," declared Cazeneuve after the meeting, adding that there was "an urgent and crucial" need to establish a system to collect passenger information given to airline companies in order to fight terrorism.

He also called on Internet companies to "identify and remove rapidly, contents inciting hatred and terror".
