Uttarakhand Governor K.K. Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat led the Foundation Day festivities here on Thursday as the hill state completed 17 years of existence.

The Chief Minister paid glowing tributes to the martyrs who struggled for the creation of Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh while the Governor took the salute at a ceremonial parade here by the state police personnel.

On the Foundation Day, hundreds of students took part in a cross-country marathon at Paudi, Pithoragarh and Bagheshwar and morning processions were taken out by school children in Uttarkashi and Tehri.

Rawat assured the families of the martyrs that one member of each family will be given a government job and also promised to resolve their demand of reservation.

He also urged them to give their problems and complaints to the state government in writing before December 31 so that they can be considered.

Many legislators were also present in their respective constituencies to take part in the celebrations.
