The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust in Tamil Nadu has created a new record by handling 14,590 tonnes of wheat import, surpassing the previous record of 12,000 tonnes, an official statement said on Tuesday.
"V. O Chidambaranar Port Trust created new record by handling 14,590 tonnes of wheat import on August 5, 2016 from the vessel MV Dream Ocean at VI Berth, surpassing the previous record of 12,000 tonnes handled from the vessel MV Lefkes on July 10, 2015," said the Shipping Ministry statement.
According to the shipping ministry, the port, formerly known as Tutticorin, created a new record by handling 22,055 tonnes of copper slag on Aug 9, 2016 surpassing the previous record of 10,815 tonnes handled on July 7, 2007.
It also created another new record by handling 15,735 tonnes of sulphur on August 18, 2016 surpassing the previous record of 12,157 tonnes handled on September 7, 2011.
V. O Chidambaranar Port Trust chairman S. Anantha Chandra Bose, while thanking all stakeholders, officers and the employees of the port, said: "This Port is continuously striving to achieve improvement in performance and productivity in order to attract more volume of traffic through the Port."
He requested all concerned to continue to improve the performance in future also.
