The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) chief ministerial candidate in Delhi, Harsh Vardhan, wanted the Delhi government rather than his party-ruled municipal corporation to construct a road in his constituency, the Congress said Tuesday.

"Harsh Vardhan wrote a letter to me saying he did not want BJP-ruled MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) to construct road in Ghondli village of Krishna Nagar and wanted the work be given to the government's flood and irrigation department. You can see how much faith he must have had in MCD," Delhi Urban Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told a press conference.

Lovely said Vardhan should not criticise development work in unauthorised colonies, regularised by the Congress, as he was opposed to their regularisation.

"He strived to get an NOC (no objection certificate) issued from the MCD to get development work executed in a segment for which the urban development department of the Delhi government had sanctioned funds," Lovely said.
