Vice President Hamid Ansari Friday congratulated the Indian hockey team for their "spectacular success" in winning the gold medal at the Incheon Asian Games.
"Your success is a matter of pride for all Indians and will inspire the nation to devote greater effort and resources to the promotion of Hockey as a national sport," Ansari said in a message to the victorious hockey team.
"All Indians join you and your families in celebrating this stellar achievement on this festive occasion."
The vice president also lauded the fact that the victory assures India of a berth in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Indian hockey team defeated Pakistan 4-2 via penalties in the final after scores were level 1-1 in regulation time.
