Spain's Villarreal has reached an agreement to renew the contract of coach Marcelino Garcia for a further three seasons until June 30, 2019.
The Spanish club announced in a statement on Friday that the official signing ceremony will be held on Monday, reports Efe.
For several weeks the two sides had been negotiating this renewal, while club president Fernando Roig had already made it clear that in his opinion, Marcelino was an "ideal coach" for the club's technical project, hoping the coach can continue leading the Submarine for "a long time."
Marcelino was hired by Villarreal in January of the 2012-13 season, when the team was in the second division league and they then managed to obtain promotion to La Liga.
In the last two seasons he has led the team to finish La Liga in sixth position, taking his side to the Europa League.
If Marcelino completes this contract, he will become the longest-serving coach in the Spanish club's history, surpassing the five seasons of Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini, current manager of Manchester City.
