A vintage T-55 tank was gifted to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur by the Indian Army to "motivate" students, an official statement said on Friday.
The tank was presented to University Chancellor Mohd Azam Khan by Uttar Bharat Area commander, Lt Gen Harish Thukral.
A statement said the "motivational tank" has been placed on platform in front of the main varsity building.
Lt Gen Thukral appreciated the growth and development of the university within a short period of time and exhorted the youth to join the Armed Forces.
He added that the tank signifies valour, courage and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers and will continue to inspire and motivate students of the university and the youth of Rampur to serve the country.
Giving out a brief on the T-55, he mentioned that this tank saw action in the Battle of Basantar during 1971 India-Pakistan War and was instrumental in securing Punjab/Jammu Sector.

Thanking the Army for the gift, Azam Khan also said the university is still under development and over a period of time, the tank will become an important landmark of the campus.
