Social activists and members of the West Bengal Commission for Women Friday expressed satisfaction after reviewing arrangements for medical treatment of the woman student of Visva Bharati University who was allegedly sexually harassed by three students.
The girl, who hails from Sikkim, is undergoing treatment at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMCH) under the supervision of a team of experts specially constituted for her care.
"The doctor who is supervising her care is dependable and other psychologists, under him, are also looking after her. There is no lack of attention. We will be monitoring the situation," Commission chairperson Sunanda Mukherjee told the media after reviewing the situation.
A Bengal court had last Sunday sent the three accused students to three days' police custody in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of the first year Fine Arts student in the last week of August.
The trio was arrested last Saturday and booked for criminal intimidation and outraging the modesty of a woman. The accused have claimed innocence.
The university, founded by Asia's first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Bolpur town of Birbhum district, had suspended the three and lodged a police complaint following an internal probe into the incident.
