Leading automobile manufacturer Volvo Group on Tuesday said its bus manufacturing arm Volvo Buses India has merged with joint company Volvo India Pvt Ltd (VIPL).

"Given the circumstances, it is quite natural for all businesses and brands of the group to be part of a unified legal organisation in order to harness synergies, competencies, create greater efficiencies and responsiveness at the back-end, leading to better customer experience," said managing director Kamal Bali in a statement.

"With this, VIPL now enshrines almost all manufacturing and business areas that make up the group globally and is also host to various global support and engineering services - engineering design and development, IT support and services, accounting and logistics services, catering to both domestic and global operations of the group," the statement added.

Volvo Group's Indian brands and business areas encompass Volvo Buses, Volvo Penta Engines, Volvo Construction Equipment, SDLG Construction Equipment, UD Buses and Volvo Trucks along with joint venture company Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV).

Established in India 18 years ago, the Bengaluru-headquartered VIPL has three manufacturing facilities near the city - Volvo Trucks facility and Volvo & UD Bus factory in Hosakote and Volvo & SDLG Construction Equipment factory in Peenya Industrial Area.

The latest legal merger brings the headcount to 3,500 people.
