VRL Logistics buys 51 Volvo buses

Leading bus service provider VRL Logistics Ltd on Friday announced buying 51 luxury intercity coaches from Swedish transport major Volvo Buses India Ltd at a cost of Rs.61 crore.

"The order includes a mix of 9400 XL and 9400PX multi-axle models, as we also operate on the longest routes (2,146km) connecting Bengaluru to Jaipur," VRL vice-president Prabhu Salageri said in a statement here.

The 14.5 metre Volvo bus with steerable tag axle is designed to provide maximum comfort to passengers and drivers on long-distance routes.

"Our 9400XL model is the best-selling coach in the country since it was rolled out in 2008. Its 13.7-metre bus also offers great comfort and is preferred by many passengers," said Volvo Buses India business head V.R.V. Sriprasad.

Volvo has trained about 26,000 bus drivers till date over a decade to ensure passengers' safe journey and prevent accidents.

As a national logistics and transport major, the 39-year-old VRL (Vijayanad Road Lines) has the largest fleet of commercial vehicles - 4,077, including 3,704 trucks and 373 buses - in the country.

The city-based Volvo's Indian subsidiary sold 5,400 buses so far to state-run and private operators across the country. It also exports to Saarc region and South Africa from its assembling facility at Hoskote on the city's outskirts.
