In a major collaboration between Washington Post and Amazon, a first after the latter bought the paper last year, a new app was launched that would deliver The Post to some Amazon Kindle tablet owners for free.
The launch which took place Thursday is the first formal collaboration between Amazon and Washington Post since Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos bought The Post for $250 million last year, reported The New York Times.
"The new app, with preloaded articles, pictures and advertisements, was designed in close collaboration with Mr. Bezos," India-born Shailesh Prakash, The Washington Post's technology head, was quoted as saying.
Aimed at broadening the paper's readership, the app will be automatically added to certain Kindle Fire tablets as part of a software update.
The new Washington Post app will be free for Kindle Fire owners for six months, and will then cost $1 (Rs.61.69) for the next six months. A $4 (Rs.246.76) version of the app will be available for Android and iOS next year.
